University of Mannheim

The University of Mannheim is a public research university in Mannheim, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Staff members at six schools and departments teach and carry out research in Business Administration, Economics, the Humanities, Social Sciences, Law, and Business Informatics and Mathematics. One of the university’s strengths is its profile in economic and social sciences. It is in these fields that the University of Mannheim has repeatedly been ranked as one of the top 20 European research institutions. The Mannheim Centre for European Social Research (MZES) was founded in 1989 as an interdisciplinary institute of the University of Mannheim. It is the largest university-based research institute in the German social sciences, steadily building its internationally leading position. More than 80 MZES scholars explore European social and political developments. The MZES is closely associated with the University's School of Social Sciences. Researchers at the university and the MZES collaborate with numerous national and international partners. The contribution of the University of Mannheim in the framework of the PIONEERED project centres around the experts in the MZES Mannheim Center for European Educational Research.

Main Tasks in the Project

With its strong expertise in international-comparative research and quantitative analyses in general, UMA will strongly participate in WP4 (secondary data analysis). The main task relates to contrasting and comparing results on educational inequalities from an international perspective. Furthermore, UMA will join the common work packages as a consultant (policy analysis, development of methodological framework, result triangulation and dissemination).
